A lot of changes.

Hello, it’s been a while since our last update!

This is the stage when the game is nearing completion—and it's true. The version of Cobular that's set for release is nearly finished, with only minor tweaks left.

However… this release won’t be happening. Does this mean the Cobular project is being abandoned? Absolutely not! Read on:

Recently, we received a proposal to switch to a new engine. Although the current engine initially seemed straightforward, it has become cumbersome and unsatisfactory over time. Of course, this is only a proposal, and we're still considering it. A new engine could mean new opportunities.

Now, let’s talk about something else: multiplayer mode. Currently, the only available mode is parkour, and we initially felt that multiplayer wasn't necessary. Although the new engine doesn’t support built-in servers like the previous one, we do have a solution for an optional LAN-based multiplayer mode. For those unfamiliar, this would enable gameplay among users on the same network. "Wait… why make it optional? Why remove it at all? There’s still the hangout mode (albeit unfinished)!" And that brings us seamlessly to the hangout mode, which will also be removed. If we move to the new engine, hangout mode may return, but only via LAN, without public servers.

If anyone’s been checking the Cobular website (and we know there are some of you!), you might have noticed issues, such as recurring 404 errors. We mentioned this issue in an earlier post, which you can find on our info page. The site will certainly be restored to a better state than before. We’re also considering a slight redesign to refresh the style, as some of these fresh proposals could bring substantial changes.

We know the game has evolved significantly since the Pre-Alpha, but no one ever said it would be easy. We're committed to delivering an unforgettable experience with Cobular, so wish us luck!
